The Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salahuddin Khan Mehsood has said that due importance is being given to all district of the province and more than 30 thousands policemen have been deployed to maintain law and order during Muharram.
This, he stated, while talking to mediamen at DIG Office Mardan after presiding over a meeting on Muharram security in Mardan and Nowshera districts. He informed that police will perform its duty as front line force with active support of Pak Army, Frontier Constabulary and other law enforcing agencies for Muharram security. He said that terrorism incidents had been dwindled down more than 70 percent for the last few years, however police was not oblivious of its duty and fully alert to foil the nefarious designs of the terrorist well in-time. He further informed that control rooms have been established in all district of the province including in CPO for monitoring the Muharram precessions. RPO Mardan Muhammad Alam Shinwari, DPO Mardan Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad and DPO Nowshera Hafiz Wahid Mehmood were also present on this occasion. The IGP further revealed that external security threat apprehensions were more as compared to the internal security, that was why search and strike operations are being carried out through out the province so as to deny bases to the terrorists and suspects elements. The police chief also disclosed that war against terrorist had been won to a great extent and any eventuality on the part of terrorists would be dealt with an iron hands. He said that stringent security measures are being adopted in inlets and outlets of all Imam Bargahs. The IGP further informed that joint operation are being carried out in southern districts and Peshawar valley added that out of the three terrorists killed in DI Khan in a clash with law enforcing agencies the other day one terrorist was carrying head money of Rs. one million. Likewise a huge terrorist attack had been foiled in Peshawar a few days ago. The IGP made it clear that police was fully alert to meet the impending challenges and no one would be allowed to take law into their hands. The IGP applead to the public to cooperate with the police for maintaining peace and tranquility during Muharram and directed the police to demonstrate decent behavior with the general public and win their support for peace.
Earlier, on arrival to Mardan a smart contingent of police presented guard of honour to the IGP.
Later on, the IGP attended a briefing in DIG office, where he was briefed in detail about the Muharram security with the help of maps and charts. The IGP expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and directed the police to keep close vigil on the suspects elements and ensure fool proof security to Muharram procession at all cost.
