IGP KP Nasir khan Durrani, presiding over high level meeting
A meeting of Sub-divisional Police Officers of Peshawar and Mardan Region was held under the chairmanship of the Inspector General of Police, Nasir Khan Durrani in the conference room of the Central Police Office Peshawar. The CCPO Peshawar, RPO Mardan, SSP Operations Peshawar, DPOs of Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda and Swabi and Divisional SPs of City, Cantt and Rural also attended the meeting.

In the meeting, the AIG Establishment Najeeb ur Rehman and Director IT Naveed Gul gave a presentation to the participants on the reform initiatives of the KP Police, their relations with changing the thana culture and their impact on improving public service delivery.

While addressing the police officers, the IGP stressed to improve their overall behavior and public dealing. He directed them to emulate the methods, manners and etiquettes of police officers of the civilized nations. He reiterated that the demeanor of a police officer must be impeccable and friendly towards the general masses. The chair said that we are the servants of the people and not their masters. The public perception and public satisfaction of the police is the only genuine yardstick and objective measure of its performance.

The chair said that we must endeavor to protect and maintain the image of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police that has been established throughout the world. And it can only be achieved by winning the hearts and minds of the public. Every effort must be made to bridge the police-public trust deficit. He further said that DRCs have been established on the principle of restorative justice which is playing a key role in not only addressing the petty issues and root causes of the crime but is also engendering advocates of police.

Later on, the IGP highlighted the efforts of KP police for improving the performance of Police Stations. He said that there are two aspects of Police Station which are essential to improving Police (thana) Culture – one is the physical resources and the other is the human resource. As far as the physical resources is concerned the KP police has established model police stations and new reporting rooms to provide conducive working ambience to both the public visiting the police stations for redressal of their grievances and the police personnel.

Secondly, the KP police has taken a number of initiatives to improve the capacity and proficiency of the human resource of the police stations. The six specialized schools, namely, Police School of Investigation, Hayatabad; Police School of Intelligence, Abbottabad; Police School of Tactics, Peshawar; Police School of Public Disorder and Riot Management, Mardan; Police School of IT, Peshawar and Police School of Explosives, Nowshera. These schools have been imparting training in various fields and are contributing towards improving the behavior of the police.

Further, the KP Police adopted various IT oriented initiatives which include digitalization of FIR, incorporation of CNIC & Cell Number of the accused & the complainant in the FIRs, Criminal Record Verification System (CRVS), Identity Verification System (IVS), Vehicle Verification System (VVS), Geo-tagging of crime scenes and Hot- spot policing. All these gadgets are being utilized by the police personnel deployed at check posts / nakabandies for verification. The hot-spot policing is being employed in prevention of crime.

In the end, the Inspector General of Police directed the SDPOs to hold police darbars / meeting in their respective police stations and brief the police personnel and staff to improve their public dealing and behavior; educate them on significance and usage of the IT gadgets introduced by the KP police; and the steps taken for improving thana culture.
