Motorcycles distribution ceremony of Traffic Warden in CPO
A ceremony of handing over 40 new motorcycles, designated as Chips, to Traffic Warden Peshawar was held in Central Police Office Peshawar under the chairmanship of the Inspector General of Police, Nasir Khan Durrani. The Additional IG Headquarters, CCPO Peshawar, DIG Traffic and SSP Traffic also participated in the ceremony.

While addressing the Police Traffic Wardens at the occasion, the IGP directed them to be proactive in order to help the local police as well. First, they should educate the motorcyclists regarding the appropriate format of the number plates and their display. Second, any motorcycle plying without number plates should be chased and stopped and handed over to the local police. Third, they should focus on educating and instilling in the public lane discipline. It is preferable to specify a lane for plying motorcycles. Fourth, the chips should engage in hot pursuit of criminals who have committed some street crime. Fifth, the chips should act as first responders in case of any incident.

The IGP stressed the Tarffic Wardens to improve their public dealing and demeanor. They must extend necessary assistance to public especially vulnerable groups including women, children, old persons, special persons while on road. The IGP directed them to properly utilize the body mounted cameras equipped with both voice and video recording. In this techno-savvy age of the smart phones where almost anyone can record live events in real time, the question of imposing illegal fine and misbehavior on the part of on-duty traffic police staff has come under intense scrutiny. Since the camera is an unbiased witness, it will provide substantial evidence of the sequence and happenings of the incident which would in turn help the supervisory officers as well as the courts to unearth the truth, establish true facts and make decisions on merit.

Secondly, these cameras would have a deterrent effect on the public as well as the traffic staff by holding both of them accountable. These cameras would help in neutralizing the defiant attitudes of the public and criminal orientations of suspects. Further, the dread of being caught red-handed would have a remedial effect on the behavior and demeanor of the traffic staff.
