IGP KP Nasir Khan Durrani, awarded Mardan police on foiling suicide attack
A ceremony was held at Central Police office (CPO) Peshawar today in which the Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani awarded Mardan police officials who successfully stopped and encountered the suicide bomber that wanted to destroy the general public with the help of the IED and then by exploding himself with his explosive-laden jacket.

It may be recalled that on 30th May at 9:35 P.M city police station police patrolling vehicle spotted a cyclist at a distance of 100 meter from the police station. On suspicion the police patrolling party signalled to stop the cyclist but he tried to hurl hand grenade on the police. The police jawan fired 7 bullets which all hit to the suicide bombers. The Bomb Disposal Squad detonated the suicide jacket and the 8kg IED and recovered two hand grenades and revolver from his possession. The suicide bomber wanted to destroy the general public with the help of the IED and then by exploding himself with his explosive-laden jacket. However the presence of mind and intime action of the police foiled all his nefarious design well in time. Addressing on the occasion the IGP Nasir Khan Durrani narrated different actions of the Mardan Region police in which several attacks of the miscreants were successfully foiled. He further went on to say that on21th May two dreaded target killers namely Hussain and Bilal were gunned down in Swabi involved in killing of polio team district head Dr. Yaqoob, Security guard wild life department Mushtaq, driver of Additional Session Judge Haripur, Killing of 8 police officials including two traffic officials. Likewise on 23rd May police diffused 2 bombs of each 5kg out side Charsadda police lines. Similarly on 25th May 4 hardened criminals from Dwa Sare Charsadda were killed in a police encounter with Mardan police wanted to police in 11 heinous cases including murder, attempted murder, extortion and kidnapping for ransom. The IGP informed the media that alertness, presence of mind and boldness exhibited by the jawan against the suicide attacker spoke volume of his professional commitment and bravery added that the jawans fired 7 bullets and all hit to the suicide bomber. The IGP further said that later on the Bomb Disposal Squad skillfully diffused the suicide jacket and the 8kg IED and recovered two hand grenades and revolver from the attacker. The IGP further revealed that the suicide attacker used to get training across the border in Afghanistan and carry out attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. After the incident, the IGP informed, the citizen of Mardan particularly the political leader and trader community arranged a ceremony in which all local political leaders irrespective of their political affiliation and traders highly commended the professional commitment and bravery of the Mardan police in this particularly incident and all police jawan who took part in the action were garlanded. The IGP also informed that both Army and police jawans were fighting shoulder to shoulder against militants and beside Zarb-e- Azab were carrying out joint operation in settled areas against militant sleeper cells.

On this occasion the IGP awarded ASI Asad Iqbal (BDS), HC Asif (PS city), Constable Zahir Shah (PS City), Constable Driver Zia Ullah (PS City) and Fazal Hayat (BDS) with cash prizes and commendation certificates.

Additional IGP Headquarters, DIG Mardan, DIG Headquarters, Training, Investigation, AIG Establishment, DPO Mardan and Principal Staff Officer to IGP were also present on this occasion.
