A one day workshop on Police Act 2017 a step towards professionalism, functional specialization and gender mainstreaming was held at police line Peshawar. The event was attended by heads of different departments male and ladies police officers and media representatives.

Speakers in the workshop expressed their views on Police Act 2017 and presented various recommendations on the occasion . Additional IGP Headquarters Syed Akhtar Ali Shah while addressing the participants of the workshop informed that the police force got autonomy in professional, functional and administrative matters and its responsibilities have equally increased with powers. He informed that under the Act now police will came up to the attached expectations of the general public through sheer hard work and professionalism. He further informed that there was no gender discrimination in New Police Act and both male and female police have entrusted equal responsibilities and powers. He further went on to say that two-three years ago no one can imagine that lady police will fire with heavy weapons, sniper firing and demonstrate rappelling and KP ladies commandos practically demonstrated it with excellent result. He further disclosed that female candidates will be preferred whenever manpower was required for the force. He further maintained that new Police Act reflected the inspirations of the general public and gave equal credit to the provincial govt for giving its powers to the police force. He said that with the completion of Safe City Project Peshawar, which is his brainchild, the security situation will further improve in the city He said that state-of- the art forensic science laboratory was established in Swat while the capacity of Peshawar forensic science laboratory had further enhanced and hoped that these both will go a long way in detection of crimes and ensuring justice to the affected. Former Additional IGP Hqrs, DIG Investigation, Commandant FRP, DIG Training, Dean of Judicial Academy, Director Centre for disaster preparedness and management university of Peshawar, Chairperson department of gender studies university of Peshawar and other high ranking civil and police officers largely participated in the workshop.
