Owing to the special sensory capabilities of the canines, the canine unit is part and parcel of gadgetry of modern law enforcement agencies. Canine units are employed to detect explosives & contrabands and trace criminals. The provincial government had sanctioned a total of 60 dogs out of which 30 were procured in the first phase. The present strength is 51 and are being regularly employed in conducting raids and search & strike operations in militant infested areas as well as for route clearance and security purposes.
