IGP KP visited DIKhan to ensure peaceful Muharram, 2018
The Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salahuddin Khan Mehsood in connection with ensuring peaceful Muharram, visited Dera Ismail Khan today where he held detailed meetings with leaders of Sunni and Shia Sects, elected representatives and police high ups and personally reviewed security arrangements on various Imam bargahs at Dera city. DIG DI Khan briefed the IGP about the security arrangements for peaceful observance of Muharram. The IGP expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements so far adopted for Muharram. Leaders of both Sunni and Shia sects said that people of Dera having peaceful temperament and enjoying brotherly relationship and pledged to abide treaties reached amongst them and to adopt positive behavior and respect each other’s sentiments as per local traditions and would once again prove Dera as cradle of peace. They were of the agreed opinion that neither Shia’s nor Sunni’s were ever involved in mischievous activities and they would have to keep an eye on those who commit such nefarious acts. They assured that they and their followers would continue to extend all-out cooperation towards the efforts being made by the police and administration not only in Muharram but throughout the entire calendar year too. The sects are enjoying cordial relations. The IGP was apprised about the security arrangements and he directed police high ups to ensure steps in the light of suggestions made at the meeting. They were further directed to keep close watch on saboteurs, brief the police Jawans before their deployment on duty points. They were also directed to provide lunch and dinner to the Jawans on their duty points. He informed that police have not to take any chance and should strictly focus their attention only and only on Muharram duty round the clock and warned that those found failed to perform duty accordingly would be strictly taken to task. The IGP made it clear that police force will remain on duty till the complete return of the mourners to their respective homes.
