DRCs will start functioning in NMDs very soon... IGP Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan.
The Dispute Resolution Councils have received a total of 7089 cases in which 5273 case have successfully been settled during the last 10 months of the current year throughout the province and referred 1266 cases to other relevant forums for legal action and 550 cases are under process.
According to details the Dispute Resolution Council was established in Peshawar so as to bring positive change in ''Thana culture'' and ensure prompt settlement of petty disputes amongst the general public. Due to its tremendous success and the ever increasing trust of the public on this system, a strong need was felt for replicating it in other areas of the province. Later on, such councils were established all over the province in each and every district and a large number of people are approaching these councils for resolution of their petty disputes. The basic purpose of establishment of Dispute Resolution Councils is to provide prompt and free of cost justice to the public. The Dispute Resolution Councils are responsible for amicable solution of disputes, fact finding enquiries and acting as jury in the conduct of contested investigation. These councils have been formed in the light of Quranic verses of Surah Al-Hujaraat where Allah Almighty has ordained as “The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers”. The decision of DRCs are based on win win situation for both parties and they are accepting it with open hearts.
In the last 10 months of the current year a total of 7089 cases were received in these councils through out the province in which 5273 cases were solved in an amicable manner and 1266 were referred to other relevant forums for legal action while 550 cases are under process. The DRCs during the last 10 months in Peshawar settled 442, in Mardan 979, Nowshera 169, Charsadda 82, Swabi 1135, Swat 305, Kohat 290, Karak 100, Hangu 84, Lakki Marwat 91, Buner 246, Upper Dir 537, Dir Lower 49, Chitral 3, Shangla 148, Torghar 3, Abbottabad 118, Haripur 35, Mansehra 57, Tank 32, Bannu 266 and D.I. Khan 102.
In Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and Swat 4 each, in Peshawar, Charsadda and Chitral 3, while in rest of districts of the province one each DRC is functioning.
It merits mentioning here that on the directives of IGP KPK Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, DRCs are being established expeditiously in the Newly Merged Districts. It is hoped that the new system will receive tremendous response from the local as it is the replica of Jirga system which has already gained roots there and will prove a mile stone in solution of the petty disputes of the dwellers.
