Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi presides over meeting to review reforms in Police investigations today.
The Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi reviewed the steps taken for improving police investigations, increasing conviction rate and establishing better coordination between police and prosecution under the justice system support programme (JJSP) in a video link conference held at CPO Peshawar today.
Additional IGP Investigation, DIG Investigation, DIG Finance and a delegation of JSSP, attended the meeting while all Regional Police Officers, all SPs investigation and investigation officers participated via video link from their respective regions and districts. The IGP was informed that better and encouraging results are being received in respect of quick dispensation and easy justice to the people due to better coordination amongst the relevant institutions under the criminal justice system. In this connection under the pilot project initiated in district Mardan and Charsadda conviction rates had increased considerably as well as the cases were disposed off quickly and easy justice to the affectees were ensured.
Inspector General of Police Mr. Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi appreciated the improvement in convictions and reduction in acquittals due to improvements in investigations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. To further improve the quality of investigation he emphasized on the greater use of forensic evidence, better case file preparation, stronger supervision by supervisory officers, improved co-ordination with prosecution and effective follow-up in the courts.
The IGP KP approved a revised crime and investigation data collection tool prepared by the office of Additional IG Investigation and issued directions for implementation of these new detailed data collection practices across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These measures will help police in better data analysis, evidence-based decision making, performance management and accountability.
The IGP directed all Regional Police Officers and SP Investigations to focus on regular inspections of investigations added that it would help in identifying lapses in investigation and sharing of best practices to strengthen investigations. The IGP KP informed that improvement in Investigation had always remained a challenge, however, reiterated his commitment that revolutionary step are being taken to strengthen investigation in the province.
