IGP stresses on participatory security against terrorists.
The RPOs' conference was held on today under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police, Nasir Khan Durrani in the conference room at Central Police Office, Peshawar.The high level meeting was convened in the wake of militant attack on the Bacha Khan University Charsadda. During the meeting, the prevalent security situation was discussed. A strategy was devised to counter and thwart the emerging tactics adopted by the militants to attack the soft targets. It was decided to beef up the security of all the sensitive installations including educational institutions, government establishments, foreigner’s projects, minority worship places etc. It was resolved to adopt offensive strategy against the militants and extremists. The IGP stressed on carrying out joint search and strike operations to purge the settled areas of any militant sleeper cells and their facilitators-cum-sympathizers. It was also highlighted that the police checking on the arteries connecting FATA and tribal areas to the settled areas would be enhanced. The chair stressed the need to adopt participatory security and directed the RPOs to sensitize the management of educational institutions, bus terminals, hospitals and other vulnerable and sensitive establishments to play their role in enhancing security and extend full cooperation to the police. The IGP highlighted that the importance of the support of civil society and general masses in the ongoing war on terror being fought by the Pakistan Army, Police and other LEAs. In this context, it was decided to launch an awareness campaign to sensitize the general masses to keep vigilance on the movements of suspects in their surroundings and inform the police immediately. The IGP directed the RPOs to utilize the services of members of Public Liaison Councils established in the Village and Neighbourhood Councils. The IGP specifically directed the RPOs to review the security of all the educational institution within a period of two days and put up report. The DIG Counter-Terrorism Department, Regional Police Officers of six divisions (namely, Mardan, Hazara, Malakand, DI Khan, Bannu and Kohat), the Capital City Police Officer, Peshawar and SSP Operations, Peshawar participated in the meeting. ![]() |
