KPK Police Rapid Response Force passing out parade
The investiture ceremony of Rapid Response Force (RRF) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police was held today (Tuesday) in Joint Police Elite Training Center (JPETC), Hakeemabad, Nowshera. The Inspector General of Police, Nasir Khan Durrani was the Chief Guest at this auspicious occasion. The Additional IGP Elite, Tariq Javed and other senior police officers participated in the ceremony.

The IGP inaugurated the new barracks constructed for the undertraining jawans. Later on, during the investiture ceremony, he assigned the insignia of Eagle / Shaheen to the RRF. While addressing the newly trained RRF jawans and the guests, the IGP said that this insignia has been awarded after due deliberations and evaluating the performance and capabilities of the personnel of RRF. The jawans of RRF emulate and exhibit all the traits of Shaheen including its sharp vision, perceptiveness, invincibility and resoluteness, alacrity, tenacity and vitality.

It is pertinent to mention that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is fighting the war against terrorism at forefront for last decade-and- a-half and is engaged in the herculean task of thwarting the nefarious and sinister designs of militants by dismantling their safe bastions and protecting the innocent civilians.

The IGP said that the Rapid Response Force has been raised to enhance the preparedness and counter-terrorism capacity of KP Police to deal with the growing challenges of terrorism in a more professional and effective manner. It is standby force equipped with necessary equipment and appropriate firepower which is capable of responding within 5-10 minutes and reaches the remotest parts within its area of responsibility in the shortest possible time.

He further elaborated that the RRF is mandated to respond in situations including organized armed assault on sensitive and vulnerable establishment; armed assault in a public; armed and organized assault on police establishment, hostage situation; major police encounter; and any other situation warranting emergency response. While praising the sacrifices rendered by the KP police in general and the elite force in particular, the IGP said that KP Elite Force, Special Combat Unit and RRF are among the best counter-terrorism forces of the world – a fact recognized by the International Trainers. The IGP urged the Provincial Government to extend moral, logistic and financial support to the KP police. The IGP further said, “The capacity building and professional growth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police has been deemed as a hallmark of your government. The professional competence of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police has been publicly acknowledged by all segments of society”.

The Principal Elite Training Center briefed that the RRF is headed by Deputy Commandant RRF who works under the supervision of Commandant Elite Force. It has been organized into 28 units which have been distributed among 14 districts. There are 6 RRF Units in Peshawar, 2 RRF Units in each Mardan, Swat, Lower Dir, Mansehra, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, DI Khan & Swabi and 1 RRF Unit each in Abottabad, Kohistan, Nowshera and Charsadda. Each unit of RRF consists of 40 personnel.
